THE best curry houses across the country have been revealed – did you local land in the top spot?
The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA) recognised the best places to get top quality Indian cuisine.
BBC news presenter and ARTA ambassador Samantha Simmonds presented the inaugural awards in London with a host of celebrities and MPs in the audience.
Walking off stage with the National Takeaway of the Year award was the Peppermills Indian Takeaway Ascot in Berkshire.
Owner Shamim Ali said: “For a small local Indian takeaway in Ascot to be named a National award winner is truly inspirational.
“We always strive to offer true original cuisine to take home, from a Royal Indian Supper to a Clay Oven marinade.
“Our heartfelt gratitude to the organisers of ARTA and the judging panel.”
Here are the regional winners of this year’s competition.
Best of East Anglia – Ruby, Hertford
This curry house offers a wide selection of classic dishes.
On Sunday’s they offer a four-dish Indian meal for £13.95 per adult.
Ruby’s offers a service where customer in Hertford can get picked up and taken to their restaurant in their Indian tuk-tuk.
Best of East London – Bengal Tiger, City of London
The Bengal Tiger cooks all their dishes from scratch.
They offer a wide selection of dishes starting at £8.95.
For just £11.95 busy workers can have a two course meal with a naan or rice as part of their express lunch menu.
Best of East Midlands – Taste of India, Kettering
In Kettering, those craving a delicious meal can be treated to a one starter, one main, one vegetable side dish and portion or rice or bread just £10.95 per person on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The restaurant boasts of modern decor and also offer traditional dishes starting at £5.75.
Best of Essex – Indian Ocean, Epping
The Indian Ocean curry house is no stranger to scooping up awards as they awarded the Tiffin Cup for the Best South Asian Restaurant in 2012.
The restaurant prides itself on cooking Indian food that is “tasty, clean and healthy”.
Best of Kent – Gufaa Raja, West Malling
The Gufaa Raja opened in 2004 and boasts of having a ‘Members Only’ bar in the restaurant.
Their mid-week special offer on Tuesday and Wednesday is anything from their A La Carte Menu including one poppadom, one starter,one side dish and one rice dish or one naan bread for £14.95.
The restaurant can hold up to 150 people and members can hire the space out for parties.
Best of North London – The Rajdoot, Hampstead
The Rajdoot’s owners say it draws their inspirations from all 22 regions of the South Asian continent.
Anyone who makes a reservation online will receive a complimentary drink worth up to £4 upon arrival.
The restaurant has been a North London favourite since 1964.
Best of Northern Ireland – Bangla, Bangor
Bangla has also previously won the Asian Curry Award 2016 and Asian and Oriental Chef Award 2017.
Last year, the restaurant also took home the ARTA regional award.
A three-course meal starts at £16.95 per person during the week.
Best of Scotland – Spice Tandoori, Elgin
This restaurant was also a finalist in the Scottish Curry Awards for 2019.
They serve a set meal for two starting at £23.95 and have a variety of offers for lunch and delivery orders.
Best of South Central – Cafe Spice, Oxford
Cafe Spice in Oxford describes itself as “a charming neighbourhood Bangladeshi & Indian restaurant and bar” that uses high-quality ingredients in their dishes.
Those who book a reservation online and spend more than £50 will get 10 per cent off their bill.
Best of South East – Tamashah, Crawley
Tamashah was awarded the best takeaway in the South East.
It currently has a 4.6 out 5 rating on Google.
Best of South West – Nibana, Plymouth
Nibana in Plymouth also had 4.6 out of 5 stars on Google and has been awarded the best Indian restaurant of the year for the South West region.
On TripAdvisor it says it has gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options.

Best of Surrey – Ripley Curry Garden, Ripley Woking
Ripley Curry Garden in Woking has been visited by many celebrities such as James Arthur, Inbetweeners Actor James Buckley and Paul Weller.
The restaurant has been open since 1982 and it describes its dishes as “a fusion of healthy, pure vibrant food.”
Best of Wales – Sheesh Mahal, Swansea
Locals have hailed Sheesh Mahal as the best Indian in Swansea.

Best of West Midlands – Bhaijaans, Sutton Coldfield
Bhaijaans restaurant prides itself on “sustainability and satisfaction.”
Last year, the restaurant scooped up the Chef of the Year from ARTA.
