A SALESMAN has been caged for the “brutal and humiliating” rape of a drunk woman – after claiming he “just fell naked on her”.

Shane Baldwin, 31, locked up for eight years for attacking the woman while she spent the night in his spare room in Chatham, Kent.

A court heard how the woman had fallen asleep in Baldwin’s spare room after a night out when the alleged assault happened[/caption]

He told jurors at Maidstone Crown Court that she initiated sex after he tripped and fell naked on top of her.

She was staying overnight at his home home in May 2017 after a drunken night out in nearby Rochester.

She woke shortly after 5am to find Baldwin raping her and telling her to “Ssh”.

After he was arrested, Baldwin denied any wrongdoing, telling officers he had fallen on top of her as he made his way back to his bed after using the toilet.

He also claimed his DNA found on the woman may have come from the shorts she had been given to wear in bed, the court heard.

Giving evidence, Baldwin said he only lied to police because he feared losing his girlfriend over a one-night stand.

Locking him up, Judge Adele Williams said: “In the early hours, you went into that spare room, you got on top of her and raped her. She was asleep.

“She asked you what was going on. You told her to be quiet.

“This was deliberate, brutal and humiliating, and it was the rape of a woman who was asleep.

“You are a selfish and self-centred young man who has shown no remorse or insight into your crime.”

Baldwin, wearing glasses and a grey jumper with his hair tied in a knot, did not show any emotion in the dock.

Earlier in the trial, the alleged victim denied flirting, dancing in a sexual manner or being attracted to Baldwin.

When the barrister suggested she had had “drunken, consensual sex with Baldwin” which she immediately regretted, she told the court: “It was not consensual. I know what happened to me.”
