Named locally as Fatima, friends of the mum have claimed she was knifed while looking after her children at around 9am.
Leicestershire Live was told by family members she died after being found stabbed by police.
A man who had just dropped his child at school said: “Shortly after 9am, several police vehicles, including marked and unmarked cars carrying armed officers, arrived in the street.
“All of a sudden there were a lot of police everywhere and a helicopter hovering over head. People were gathering in the street.”
And a pal of the woman said: “She had the two boys from a previous relationship and the girl from her present relationship.
“She was a Tamil who converted to Islam.
“I couldn’t believe it when I heard she was dead. She was an amazing mum who cared for her children and fed them well.”
Cops wouldn’t confirm how the mum – thought to be in her 30s – died, or if her children were present.
MUM MURDER PROBE
A Leicestershire Police statement said: “A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman at a house in Leicester.
“Emergency services were called to a property in Bartholomew Street shortly after 8.30am today (Tuesday 8 October) following reports that a woman had been seriously injured inside.
“She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A cordon was put in place Bartholomew Street while enquiries were carried out. No arrests have been made at this time.”
Detective Inspector Mark Sinski said: “Our investigation is very much in its early stages and officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries.
“I am, however, also appealing for public help and would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident.
“As this happened shortly after 8.30am, I would be particularly keen to speak to anyone who was leaving for work or taking their children to school. Did you see anyone leaving the address in Bartholomew Street or acting in a manner that caught your attention?
