He suffered a fractured skull and needed part of it removed to relieve pressure caused by swelling.

Andrew, of Teignmouth, Devon, also suffered memory, smell and taste loss and wears a helmet to protect his head.

The dad of one, a keen gym-goer, said: “My life has changed utterly. It’s a miracle I’m alive.

“The surgery that I had was described as the most risky procedure of all.

“I had a fracture at the back of my skull, my brain became enlarged – they had to remove my forehead so my brain could breathe.

‘NERVOUS ABOUT GOING OUT’

“It’s really scary what the future holds.”

Andrew added: “My walking has totally changed. I’m moving with a stick when I used to be athletic.

“I’m nervous about going out.”

He has had to give up his job as a support worker.

Doctors plan to rebuild Andrew’s forehead by inserting a metal plate.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said: “A 21-year-old man from Newton Abbot was arrested on May 19 on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

“He remains released under investigation pending further enquires.

“A number of police enquiries remain ongoing in relation to this matter.”
