TWENTY-ONE physical or sexual attacks a day are carried out by offenders on community service orders, latest figures show.
The annual total — 7,622 — has surged by eight per cent in a year and 58 per cent over the past six years.

One in three of the criminals who get the slap on the wrist by having to do unpaid work reoffends within a year, according to the 2010-16 figures obtained by the Sun on Sunday.
Separate stats show that about 10,000 crimes are carried out every week by repeat offenders.

David Spencer, research director at the Centre for Crime Prevention, said: “For too long, offender rights have taken precedent over public safety.
“These shocking figures show the true cost of the failure to punish offenders properly.”
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “Under this Government, the most serious offenders are more likely to go to prison and for longer.”
