In the shocking video, the driver is walks away from the car and his passengers follow closely behind as the victim from the van is reaching his arms out for help on the floor.

A witness, who was driving behind the van towards the city centre, stayed with the van driver after seeing the motorist from the BMW run away.

She told CoventryLive: “Our lights turned green and we were carrying on as normal and you just saw this car come out of the side street straight in to the van, which turned it around, and the car then crashed in to the takeaway.

“They [those in the car] fled the scene.”

The woman, who did not want to be named, said the van driver suffered leg injuries but he “was talking and in good spirits”.

Saqib Hussain, the owner of the chicken shop, said he was “shocked” by what happened but was more concerned about those involved in the crash rather than his takeaway.

He also said he was relieved it didn’t happen while the shop was open.

West Midlands Police said are appealing for information in regards to the early morning crash to come forward.

In a statement they said: “Officers were called just after 6am after a car went into the back of another car and then into a shop.

“One driver, a man, is being treated for minor injuries and enquiries continue to trace the driver of the other vehicle.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or call 101 anytime. Quote log number 299 of October 3.”
