A BABY has been found dead in a Surrey prison after a woman reportedly gave birth alone in her cell.

The woman gave birth at HMP Bronzefield in September but the child tragically died.

A review has now been launched at the Sodexo-run prison.

Vicky Robinson, director, said: “We are supporting the mother through this distressing time and our thoughts are with her, her family and our staff involved.

“We are undertaking a full review and working with all relevant authorities during their investigations.

“It would not be appropriate to comment any further.”

Police had been called to the prison about 9am on September 27.
