A HERO cabbie saved a pregnant woman from an evil sex trafficker after the sicko told him to drive her to a brothel.

Evil Robert Enescu, 26, planned to plunge to innocent Romanian woman into the murky sex trade after luring her to the UK with the promise of work as a masseuse.

The shattered victim was held hostage in a London sex den before being moved to Coventry and forced to pose in lingerie for seedy adult websites.

But taxi driver Tahir Mehmood came to the rescue last year when Enescu ordered him to ferry the victim to another brothel – when Mr Mehmood clocked that something was wrong.

He spoke to the woman after she got in then called in cops when he discovered she was being used as a sex slave.

The hero cabbie is now in line for a commendation from West Midlands Police after saving the married victim from being forced into the sex trade.

Police rescued her on February 20, 2018, and the next day officers raided the brothel to rescue several other suspected sex slaves.

Dad-of two Mr Mehmood said: “The man asked me if I could take her to St Christian Road. The lady got in the cab. The lady was upset. She was crying.

“I said ‘What’s up love? Why are you crying?’ I stopped the taxi and said ‘Just tell me what’s happened’.

“She said ‘I don’t know here, I just came here four days before, come to here to do massage, but they tell me go to prostitution, to do sex, but I don’t want to do it.

“I dialled 999 and the police came and I told them everything. They spoke to her and she came out the cab and they took her to the police station.

“I’ve been a taxi driver since 2004 but nothing like this happened before.

“If I know somebody needs help, I will help. If somebody needs an ambulance I will call. I’m going to help, I’ll try my best to help.”

Enescu was later arrested at his home in Coventry.

JUMPED BAIL

He denied being involved in trafficking the woman, who had arrived at Luton Airport on February 16, but was charged, found guilty and jailed for nine years in his absence, having jumped bail.

A wanted appeal has now been issued and West Midlands Police is working with forces across the UK and Europol to bring him to justice.

Police have now released officer bodycam footage of the moment cops responded to a 999 call from the hero cabbie – and found the victim in the rear of his cab.

The victim was found in possession of just a bag of 50 condoms having had her mobile phone smashed and all her money stolen by Enescu.

She was kept locked in a room at an address in Enfield with no food or heating, just a mattress to lie on and a bucket as a toilet. She said she had no way to escape: the door was locked from the outside and had no handle on the inside.

Det Insp Wes Martin

Detective Inspector Wes Martin, from the force’s Public Protection Unit, said: “When the taxi driver picked her up, Enescu said ‘This is my phone number, phone me when she gets there’.

“He then started driving, and she looked a bit stressed. He was aware she didn’t have any kind of belongings with her and he was quite concerned.

“She looked like there’d been an argument so he asked her if she was OK. She said ‘No’ – no more than that really.”

He added: “The woman responded to an online advert for masseuses – she thought it was a legitimate job but within hours realised she was in danger.

“If anyone has any information on Enescu’s whereabouts I would encourage them to get in touch.”
