BOOZED-up Derby County star Richard Keogh was left unconscious in his teammate’s mangled Range Rover after a drink-drive smash.

Five footballers were reportedly caught up in the crash, which left captain Keogh, 33, with a career-threatening knee injury.

Striker Mason Bennett, 23, and teammate Tom Lawrence, 25, were both charged with drink driving following the collision.

Keogh had been travelling in Lawrence’s Range Rover when it crashed into the back of Bennett’s car before ending up wrapped around a lamppost.

He was later found by emergency crews unconscious with his teammate’s coming back to rescue him.

A source said: “Tom came flying behind him (Mason) in his SVR. He was going so quick that he smashed into the back of Mason’s car which span and flipped round.

“Tom’s car then carried on and crashed into a lampost on the other side of the road.

“Richard was in the back of the car which had all of Tom’s gear in it. So Richard was sat on loads of stuff with no room on the back seat and his legs were up and on the side.

“His knees were to the side too. And they smashed into the car. He’s f****ed himself…he smashed his face up as well.”

The millionaire footballers had snubbed lifts home from a night out to carry on boozing before crashing their cars, the club revealed.

Footage posted on Snapchat by Bennett and obtained by The Sun shows the lads larking about in the bar, with midfielder Scott Malone apparently slumped asleep in his chair.

Kieran Dowell can also be seen in the group – along with Tom Huddlestone and Keogh.

It comes after another video showed Bennett vomiting into a pub urinal and downing lager hours before the horror in Derbyshire.

A voice can be heard saying “get it all out Mas” as he’s violently sick.

Players are heard mocking Bennett for only having “f*****g three pints of Peroni”.

Bennett appears to reply: “I’ve had more than three.”

Asked if he’s all right, he wipes his mouth and replies: “No, put your phones away.”

Keogh is believed to have been a passenger in team-mate Lawrence’s Range Rover which ploughed into a lamppost on the A6.

The defender suffered a serious knee injury, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

‘LUCKY NOT TO HAVE BEEN KILLED’

A shocking picture showed Lawrence’s mangled motor.

A source said: “Lawrence’s car smashed into Bennett’s at a junction close to the pub, spinning him into trees. He then smashed into a lamppost.

“They were lucky not to have been killed.

“When the police turned up, Keogh was completely off his head and tried to claim his name was Alfie.
“The copper apparently told him: ‘No you’re not, you’re Richard Keogh.’”

Derby’s squad had gone bowling followed by a boozy dinner at the Joiners Arms, Quarndon.

RAMS ‘CAN’T ACCEPT THIS’

The Rams blamed Keogh and a “small group” of players for “not knowing when to stop” drinking and snubbing the chance “to be driven home using cars laid on by the club”.

Derby insist those responsible “will pay a heavy price for their actions”.

Furious Rams manager Phillip Cocu said: “It’s a bad situation for everyone.

“I have not experienced anything close to this.

“We can’t accept it. It’s affected everyone.

“Most of the players left around 8pm — but a small group continued at the bar.

“We were not present when the players stayed on.

“Some senior players were and the choice they made was a bad example and there will be consequences.

“Due to an alcohol- related incident later, we lost our captain for the rest of the season.

“I spoke to Richard and he is extremely down — he feels responsible.”

Lawrence and Bennett were charged on Wednesday and will appear before magistrates on October 15.
