Most said it made them feel “grossed out” and “confused”, according to a survey by the British Board of Film Classification. Fifty-one per cent of 11 to

13-year-olds reported seeing porn, increasing to 66 per cent among 14 to 15-year-olds.

Girls shared concerns about aggressive depictions of sex online, which could then be normalised by young boys.

Three-quarters of parents did not believe their child has seen porn, but an average of 53 per cent of kids said they had. BBFC chief exec David Austin warned: “Pornography is currently one click away for children of all ages in the UK.”

He went on: “When young children — in some cases as young as seven or eight years old — first see pornography online, it is most commonly not on purpose.”

He said it was “affecting the way young people understand healthy relationships, sex, body image and consent”.

More than eight in ten parents back BBFC proposals for age-verification controls.
