HOLLYOAKS favourite Darren Osborne is set to embark on a challenging battle with his mental health, according to show bosses.
Darren, played by Ashley Taylor Dawson, has suffered a string of tough events in his life recently and things are only set to get worse.
Not only did Luke Morgan return to the village and plot to split him and Mandy Morgan up, this summer Darren narrowly escaped being murdered by serial killer Brenda McQueen.
Earlier in the year, troubled teen Juliet Quinn also faked an affair with Darren in a bid to ruin his relationship with Mandy.
With Hollyoaks’ annual stunt week fast approaching, which sees the drama reach fever pitch each October, executive producer Bryan Kirkwood has revealed Ashley’s character has a big storyline coming up.
Bryan told Radio Times: “As it always should, stunt week starts as many stories as it pays off. Darren is about to embark on a very serious mental health story.
“His battle with depression goes into next year but the origins of that play across stunt week – although he doesn’t realise it at the time. It sows seeds of his dissatisfaction.”
Last month, The Sun Online revealed that this year’s autumn stunt is set to be one of Hollyoaks’ most dramatic yet.
It is believed that Darren, Mandy (Sarah Jayne Dunn) and Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) will all be involved.

Kieron Richardson, who plays Ste Hay in the soap, told The Mirror: “It’s always amazing and the director doing it this year did our iconic bus crash three years ago.
“They bring in the special effects team and Bryan Kirkwood said it’s gonna be our biggest, best ever.”
He also hinted that Hollyoaks newcomer, former X Factor star Jake Quickenden, will be involved too.
