LARRY Lamb has teased the Gavin and Stacey reboot will be “extraordinary”, and he has insisted fans will “not be disappointed”.
The 71-year-old actor, who portrays Mick Shipman in the sitcom, was apprehensive about reading the script for the shows return after 10 years, but is pleasantly surprised by the episode and thinks viewers will be too.
Speaking on Lorraine today, the former EastEnders star said: “When you read a script that is completely new to you, you are looking for so much in it. But when you are looking for something that is a major reflection of a part of your life you don’t know how they are going to deal with it.
“When you become as an actor, you become an instant critique of everything you read literally from the very first word.
“I realised straight away this is it, they’ve done it.
“There’s no way you are going to be frightened of it because you’ve just flipped over 10 years on and you’re in.”
Larry has admitted as an actor he has become highly critical of the projects he is given, but within seconds of reading his lines for the Christmas special he knew the team had done it justice.
He continued: “As an actor, you become an instant critique of everything you read.
“I realised straight away this is it, they’ve done it. It’s extraordinary.
“There are millions of people out there that will not be disappointed. It will be rocking Christmas evening.”
However, Larry has admitted he was starting to get “frustrated” when fans would quiz him about the shows comeback over the years, which last aired on January 1, 2010.
He said: “I really was getting so frustrated.
“I was going to get it tattooed on my head saying ‘sorry I don’t know.’ But now I do know.”
Larry has had a busy year as he has also filmed a new comedy titled Brighton, which he has likened to “EastEnders with expletives”.
He said: “It’s just like being in EastEnders with the expletives. It’s a bit hot on the language.
“It’s based on a Steven Berkoff play, it’s two couples who met in Brighton who met years ago moaning about how life has changed. At the same time there’s a film of them as youngsters, so you understand where this couple have come from.”
