CORONATION Street’s grief-stricken Daniel Osbourne is spotted cuddling son Bertie as devastating teaser images show his turmoil following the death of his wife, Sinead.
The young couple welcomed their first and only tot shortly after Katie McGlynn’s character was diagnosed with cervical cancer for the first time.
The ITV soap’s spoilers have previously told how Sinead will soon lose her fight against the killer disease after being diagnosed for the second time, with tragic new teaser shots showing Daniel unable to cope in the aftermath of her passing.
Ken Barlow’s grandson, played by Rob Mallard, is seen fleeing to the countryside, wrapping little Bertie up in a striped puffer onesie.
He is spotted with a pained expression on his face as he holds the tot close, before cuddling with him as they sit on a picnic mat in a quiet field.
Aware he has to carry on for the sake of his son, he pretends as if everything is normal, swinging him around in the air as they play.
Daniel is then spotted with his head in his hands as the emotion takes hold, before pushing Bertie further into the hillside in his pram.
It is there they encounter his half brother, Peter Barlow, who urges him to come back home.
After Daniel is adamant he wants to be left alone with his child and his thoughts, Peter, also a dad, retorts: “You need to be with your family.”
It appears Ken’s youngest takes heed of his advice as he sits down with Peter, with his brother seen holding little Bertie.
Actors Rob and Sinead have worked closely with Glossop-based charity, Mummy’s Star, to formulate the harrowing cervical cancer storyline and its impact on victims.
Last week, Sun Online reported how Corrie fans were left in floods of tears as Sinead broke down over her chemotherapy treatment.
Sinead found the lump on her wedding day before doctors confirmed she had just months to live.
Katie also said she told bosses she wanted her to die: “I was talking to [Corrie bosses] Iain [MacLeod] and Kate [Oates] about this story.
“I told them that I think I might want to leave due to not having a big storyline, but when I was given this, I told her that I want her to die as life isn’t a fairytale.”
Meanwhile the actress, 26, has shared a variety of behind the scenes snaps showing her leaving party, complete with a floral Sinead wreath.
