Rod Stewart’s exes decided not to fight to they could form a ‘real family’

ROD Stewart had his entire family to support him during his recent prostate cancer battle – including his ex-wives.

And now Rachel Hunter and Alana Hamilton have revealed why they were determined to stay a “real family” with the rock star and avoid his exes battling each other.

Rod’s relationship with his former loves has been in the news after a recent picture showed him with the pair at daughter Kimberley’s 40th birthday, alongside ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg and his Loose Women star wife Penny Lancaster.

Nineties supermodel Rachel revealed the surprising reunion was “nothing new” because the family always tries to have a positive outlook for their children.

She said: “The most important thing is that we really do support each other.

“I know that’s hard to foster in some relationships, but to be able to find that for children is important.”

Asked about why the photo prompted such huge international reaction, she responded: “I just don’t understand that. The only way we separate it is there’s an ex-wife or a wife. It’s just a label.

“There’s a human being there, you know? So what’s the problem?

“I don’t see there’s anything other than society or conditioning making issues there.

“Everyone has their differences, everyone has their moments. But at the same time, I think being an upstanding human being can only make things change in the world.”

Alana found the reaction to the picture “funny” and insisted it wasn’t released as a publicity stunt.

She said: “It’s like the picture that won’t die.

“It wasn’t a thought-out posed picture. We were all there and I said, ‘Hey, let’s take a picture.’ And we just all got together and took a picture and then it was everywhere.

“I think it’s important to remain friends. We all have kids who are brothers and sisters.

“They’re half-brothers and sisters, but they think of themselves as brothers and sisters. So it’s great when we all get together. It’s fun.”

Rachel and Alana joined forces again to support a fundraising event in LA for the Farrah Fawcett Foundation – ten years after the Hollywood legend’s death from cancer.

Alana said of her Charlie’s Angels pal: “A night like tonight makes me miss her more than ever. She wanted to help every single person who faces cancer and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

One thing is without question – Rod has always had very good taste when it comes to wives.
