A FURIOUS mum of a 12-year-old boy who was beaten up in a locker room by fellow school boys while a teacher allegedly stood by has demanded the school take action.

Lauren Springfield said she felt “nauseated” to watch a video of a gang setting upon her son while others  stood by and watched.

The lad can be seen in a headlock before being kneed him in the abdomen and punched in the head repeatedly before being slammed to the floor.

Ms Springfield is now accusing the school of doing enough and asking why a teacher was apparently in the locker room but failed to stop the beating?

She says major policy changes are needed and has called for a zero-tolerance approach to bullying at Blake Academy in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida.

Ms Springfield told Fox 13: “It was sad for me to watch him not fight back because not once did he raise his hands to those kids.”

Speaking before the Polk County Schoolboard this week, Ms Springfield said: “Our goal as parents is to keep our children safe.

“We’re sending them to school to learn every day.

“So, if we can’t create an environment where they are safe regardless of what else is going on, then we’re missing out big.”

Springfield also raised a racial aspect of her son’s beating.

She said: “I can guarantee you had this been a group of Black students on a lone white student we would be having a completely different conversation. I am disheartened, I am tired, scared for my son and completely enraged.”

Apologising to Ms Springfield, Polk County Schools Superintendent Jacqueline Byrd said: “I want to say personally to the victim and their parents, we apologise for what happened.

“This should not happen in schools.”

The school has not specified the changes it plans to make.

But one of the attackers was suspended for 10 days and charged with battery by Lakeland police.
