A MONSTER storm is careering towards Bermuda on its path to the UK, where it will bring torrential rain and fierce winds.

Humberto is on target to smash into the north west of the Bahamas – the same area flattened by Hurricane Dorian, leaving dozens dead and tens of thousands homeless.

Where is Hurricane Humberto now?

Hurricane Humberto’s core has passed its closest point of approach to Bermuda, but the strong hurricane-force winds whipped the island up until Thursday, September 19.

The Category 3 storm was packing sustained winds of 120 mph on Wednesday, September 18.

The storm’s fierce winds extended 80 miles outward from its centre as it raged on, 75 miles north of Bermuda.

Southern parts of the island are under flood threat from September 19, with dangerous waves.
According to the Hurricane Centre, one huge wave was measured at above a whopping 30 feet.

Is Hurricane Humberto heading to the UK?

The Met Office warned that Brits are in the last few days of an Indian summer weather before thunderstorms and a cold front descends.

Category 3 Hurricane Humberto is currently in the Atlantic and the Met Office has said the storm’s current path will bring misery to the UK.

Brits are enjoying the last of the summer sunshine this week with temperatures remaining in the 20s, but by next week the UK weather forecast will become more unsettled.

A Met Office spokesman told The Sun Online: “With the hurricane it will become more modified by the time it reaches us.

“We are in for a wet wrath of it when it arrives.

“We will have some rain over the weekend, but the remnants of the hurricane will come on Monday.

“It will bring cloud, rain and wind, but nothing too severe at the moment.

“It may be something that will require a weather warning a later time.

“The West and South West will get the brunt of it. There will be clouds and a lot of rain before it will then spread to most parts of the UK like Northern Ireland and Scotland.”

He added that it is too early to tell how much rain and wind is set to be unleashed next week.

What’s the latest with Hurricane Dorian?

On Monday, September 9, Dorian was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone with speeds at 64mph over far eastern Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador.

It had previously struck eastern Canada, causing wind damage and bringing heavy rain.

About 400,000 people were left without power in Novia Scotia because of the post-tropical cyclone.

It comes after Dorian hit Florida’s east coast – whipping up 110 mph winds that prompted Disney World to close.

The then Category 2 storm began creeping up the shore 95 miles off Cape Canaveral on Tuesday, September 3 – having already devastated the Bahamas.

In Florida, Walt Disney World closed its four theme parks.

Officials in the Bahamas feared the final death toll, currently at 50, will be “staggering” with thousands still listed as missing.

Health Minister Duane Sands said: “The public needs to prepare for unimaginable information about the death toll and the human suffering,” he told local radio.

Chilling pictures taken there show the catastrophic damage caused to thousands of homes.
