WHO HAS PLAYED LUCY BEALE?

IN 2015 the question on every EastEnders' fans lips was 'who killed Lucy Beale?' with it later transpiring that little Bobby was the one responsible for the brutal attack on his sister. Today we are looking back at the stars who played the Walford favourite over the years.

Eva Brittin-Snell, 1993 – 1996

The daughter of Ian and Cindy Beale, Lucy and her twin brother Peter were introduced onscreen in December 1993, with baby Eva playing the tot for the first three years on the soap.

Casey Anne Rothery, 1996 – 2004

Casey took over the role for eight years, and was left devastated when bosses axed her out of the blue as they looked to mature the character. The child actress’ family were said to be furious with the decision at the time, and Casey was left in tears. A source told The People that soap bosses ‘admitted they could have handled things a lot better’ when Casey’s unimpressed dad calling them up to formally complain about his daughter’s treatment.

Melissa Suffield, 2004 – 2010

Melissa took over the role from Casey, and her character was immediately involved in dramatic storylines focusing on her teen rebellion. She was axed in 2010 after being caught underage drinking just weeks before her 18th birthday.

Hetti Bywater, 2012 – 2015

Lucy was not re-introduced for two years after Melissa left, with Hetti’s reincarnation of the character proving grittier than ever with a shock pregnancy storyline – as well as a steamy affair with Max Branning. The murder of Lucy became the soap’s big storyline for 2014, with Lucy killed in April of that year. The gripping whodunnit played out for 10 months before it was revealed that she was bumped off by her little brother Bobby – and stepmum Jane covered up the attack. Hetti made a final appearance as Lucy in a special flashback episode on 19 February 2015.

Unknown 2019 –

Despite being killed five years earlier, Lucy has briefly featured in 2019 episodes of the BBC One soap after Bobby returned to Walford following his stint in a Young Offenders’ Institute. The troubled teen is haunted by his crime and has repeated visions of his big sister. The image of Lucy appears blurred to viewers, who mocked the show on Monday night when they claimed that the young character’s ghost had ‘turned into a middle-aged woman’. It is not known who is playing Lucy’s ghost in these scenes.

In July, the star announced that she is engaged on her social media page, sharing a snap of her dazzling diamond ring and the caption: “#ISaidYaass @mrrobertbrendan.”

Although the third actress to put their face to Ian Beale’s only daughter in ‘Enders, Melissa was the first recognisable star to take on the role and appeared as a series regular for six years.

She was axed nine years ago after being caught boozing underage – just weeks before her 18th birthday.

The role was reprised by Hetti Bywater, with the character murdered by little brother Bobby Beale in 2014.
