DANCING With The Stars’ Kel Mitchell says James Van Der Beek is training like “a beast” and is his “biggest competition” on the show.
The Dawson’s Creek star is working hard to win the Mirrorball Trophy and his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed with comedian Kel, 41.

The Kenan & Kel star told PeopleTV’s Reality Check: “He’s a beast, okay? Me and him, nonstop. When I’m in there, he’s in there. Every time I go to rehearse, I see James.
“The other day, he was in there by himself, just practicing. So shoutout to James. That was a surprise I did see which I thought was very, very cool, that he was in there before his partner got there.
“He’s definitely in the zone.”
The two hour premiere aired last night and saw 12 well-known and energetic celebrities move out of their comfort zones and hit the ballroom floor.

James, 42, announced he had joined season 28 cast of DWTS by sharing a video of his family, including his five kids rooting him on from home while he appeared on Good Morning America.
Since playing floppy-haired Dawson Leery in Dawson’s Creek, James Van Der Beek’s career has come a long way, spanning well over two decades.

At the age of 15, he asked his mother to take him into New York City to get an agent and try his hand at professional acting.
He made his professional debut off-Broadway at age 16 in 1993.
Aged 17, while still in high school, he made his feature film debut in a bit role as a bully in Angus (1995) and shot a small role in the independent film I Love You, I Love You Not (1996).

He attended Drew University but dropped out to pursue a career in acting.
And upon landing his big break, it seemed as if dropping out of school wasn’t such a bad decision after all.
James won the title role of Dawson Leery and the show’s 1998 debut was a success that helped to establish its cast.
