STRANGER Things’ Will Byers is at the centre of a major conspiracy theory.
Will may have played a less pivotal role in the events of season three compared to the show’s first ever episodes, but there’s speculation that Will is at the root of the Upside Down breach.
After all, he previously found himself trapped there, and Hawkins hasn’t been the same since he made his return.
A group of fans on Reddit believe they’ve cracked the case, linking Will to the alternate world in a big way.
User bloodylollipops speculated: “There’s the common theory that our universe has infinite dimensions and alternate universes, but in the show so far, we only know that there is one other dimension, and it’s only of Hawkins.
They went on: “Joyce Byers grew up in Hawkins and raised her two boys there as well. Hawkins is all that Will really knows.
“Will is also very artistic and creates stories. He could’ve very well created a version of the Upside Down and drawn it, written about it.”
The super fan went on to claim that Will has been tested on since birth, with methods akin to those inflicted upon Eleven.
“When Joyce’s husband was around, he could’ve taken money from Hawkins Lab so that they could experiment on Will when he was very young,” they continued.
“I don’t think Joyce would’ve done this unless she was in very, very deep and was desperate.”

They claimed the ramifications of this was Will learning to manifest worlds, or at the very least create openings independently.
“Will may have had the power to create worlds, but just like Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) at the end of season 3, it could’ve disappeared or been drained so to speak,” they concluded.
Before long the post was flooded with upvotes, as others agreed that Will was inextricably tied to the Upside Down.
The theory comes after fans predicted that the Upside Down would cross over with the nuclear fallout of Chernobyl in season four.
