Residents in the picturesque town of Oakham claim the fast food chain could devalue their properties[/caption]

But residents of Oakham are opposing the application in a town better known for shooting, sailing and £35,000 a year schools.

They say the McDonald’s will devalue their homes and attract the wrong kinds of people.

Joanna Aitken said: “I’ve heard McDonald’s is cheap food for people who can’t afford anything better but we already have budget supermarkets.”

Indian takeaway boss Gaz Ali added “It’s going to bring riff-raff.”

And Sandra Wells, 57, wrote: “It’s disgusting. Oakham is not the place for it.”

Gym owner Jade Smith, 35, said: “It will kill off our beautiful town.”

Rutland County Council will decide later.
