EVIL child killer Aaron Campbell has a band of female followers who send him fan letters in jail, we can reveal.
Admirers write to the fiend, 17, despite his rape and murder of Alesha MacPhail, six — and even went to court to see him on a video link.
A source said of their support for Campbell: “It’s beyond sick.”
The creepy penpals besotted with him were branded “crazy” by Alesha’s great-grandad.
George Lochrane, 76, called for a police probe into the fiend’s cult followers after it emerged groupies are sending him fan mail in prison.
Female supporters have written letters offering to help “change” Campbell, 17, and make him a “better person” while he serves a life term for abducting, raping and murdering little Alesha, six.
Admirers even attended hearings at the High Court in Edinburgh for a glimpse of Campbell — disowned by his family and friends — when he appeared via video link.
There are obviously some crazy people out there
But George, of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, said: “There are obviously some crazy people out there.
“It’s like they are trying to stir it up.
“I think the police should be investigating because it’s just not right and very upsetting to hear.”
NO VISITORS FOR MONTHS
Another source said of Campbell — who hasn’t had a visitor at Polmont young offenders nick for months: “What he put that child through was horrific, yet these twisted women idolise him.
“There’s something seriously wrong with them.
“He has quite a few admirers who send him letters in jail.
“They tell him they can help him be a better person, help him change.
“Sending him letters is bad enough, but to go to court in the hope of seeing him is disgusting.
“Four or five young women were there to watch that beast on a TV screen. They should be ashamed.
“There are some very disturbed women out there. He should be left to rot for what he did to little Alesha.”
Campbell was caged for at least 27 years for slaying the youngster, of Airdrie, when she was visiting her dad Robert MacPhail, 26, and grandparents in Rothesay, Bute, in July last year.
Her naked body was found in the grounds of a nearby derelict hotel with 117 separate injuries.
Jurors unanimously found Campbell guilty of murder in February following a nine-day trial.
He had not been named during proceedings due to his age but was later unmasked in a landmark legal ruling.
Judge Lord Matthews branded him a “cold, callous, calculating, remorseless and dangerous” individual and warned he would only be released if “a lot of work” was done to change him.
But his sentence was last week cut by three years to a minimum 24-year term on appeal, despite a psychologist revealing Campbell admitted thoughts of necrophilia and paedophilia, as well as wishes to kill and carry out sex attacks.
A report said he was “irritated” that schoolgirl Alesha was alive when he raped her.
