BRITAIN’S Got Talent: The Champions judges were left terrified by Darcy Oake’s death-defying exploding box stunt last night.
However, some viewers weren’t as impressed – as they appear to have worked out how the stuntman did his trick.
The Canadian illusionist, 27, was handcuffed and locked inside a box. The box was then lifted 20 feet in the air as four fuses below were lit.
Darcy then had 56 seconds to free himself before the box explodes.
Footage from inside the box showed Darcy struggling until the very last second.
Simon Cowell and the other judges were stunned by the performances, with the head judge labelling him “the ultimate showman”.
He said: “I don’t know what quite happened here. But I have got to tell you Darcy that apart from being a great guy, a true competitor, you are the ultimate showman.
“I mean every time you come on it blows my mind. Unbelievable. And you are so good looking.”
But eagle-eyed fans were less than impressed – with some claiming they figured out the trick.
One person said: “Watched #BGTTheChampions and Darcy Oakes act was interesting to watch as he tries to escape the box before it explodes. He exits the box before it’s put 20ft in the air through a trap door in the stage. The footage of him inside the box is pre recorded.”
Another added: “The footage in the box was pre recorded!”
One other chimed in: “There was somebody already in the box… why did he let ant put one cuff on him… when he appeared the other side of the arena he still had the same cuff on the same hand???”
Not everyone was so cynical about the performance, as many people were genuinely shock by his escape from the exploding box.
A fan wrote: “Incredible and that Darcy is such an amazing magician #BGTChampions.”
With another saying: “Absolutely fantastic. My heart was in my mouth the whole time. I always thought he was robbed the first time around. Hopefully this time he will be the winner.”
The illusionist eventually made it to the final thanks to the public vote, beating veteran magician Richard Jones. He’ll be joining dance act Paddy & Nico, who won via the Golden Buzzer.
Darcy Oake made it to the final of Britain’s Got Talent in 2014 for series 8, but was beaten by musical theatre boy band Collabro.
He came in fifth place, behind Jack Pack, Bars and Melody, and Lucy Kay.
Darcy was the first magician to make it to BGT finals.
