NETFLIX dropped new horror series Marianne and viewers decided to terrify themselves by binging the whole thing on Friday the 13th.

The eight episode series follows a young horror writer called Emma (Victorie Du Bois) who based her famous characters on nightmares she’s had since childhood.

However, when she’s lured back to her hometown, she finds out that the evil witch from her dreams, Marianne, is causing havoc in the real world.

It’s up to Emma to find out the end of the story and rid the town of Marianne, all while the witch promises to “punish” her.

Netflix chose to release the whole series on Friday the 13th as part of its horror-themed content build up to Halloween.

This Friday the 13th was also a full harvest moon, making it the perfect, creepy time to watch the French horror.

Of course, as a horror, it’s also gory

One terrified fan said: “Jesus f****** Christ in a teflon tutu… #Marianne is intense/terrifying/disturbing. Geez Netflix. At I am watching at midday. PS. The english dub is s***, watch in French with subs.”

Another added: “i just started Marianne on Netflix. 10/10 would recommend, the first horror to ever make me paranoid & scared enough to cry, first horror to give me nightmares that woke me up every 30 minutes. U bet imma keep watching.”

A fan even compared it to the works of legendary horror writers Stephen King and Clive Barker: “@netflix you’re French series #Marianne is one of THE BEST horror series I’ve seen recently. I’ve no doubt both @StephenKing & @RealCliveBarker would HIGHLY approve of teh story, the gore, the depth; this series has everything a horror fanatic thrives for. BRAVO!”

Even those just starting out are hopeful, with one fan remarking: “#Marianne is the best TV horror pilot ever. It’s really frightening and got #hereditary vibes. Finally, after a long wait, a decent one from #Netflix. Hopeful for the remaining episodes.”

The show is certainly creepy, with the trailer alone revealing terrifying possessions, body mutilation and the incredibly menacing Marianne.

Horror fans were not put off by the subtitles either, with people suggesting the subs are better than the dub.
