Who was Eddie Money?
Eddie Money was an American singer and songwriter born in New York on March 21, 1949.
The musician was born Edward Joseph Mahoney to an Irish Catholic family and raised in Long Island.
Before deciding to become a music artist, Eddie had intended to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, father and brother and join the NYPD force – where he had trained before packing it in to pursue his musical ambitions in California.
While in the land of dreams Eddie scored a record contract with Columbia Records with whom he releaased his hit tracks Baby Hold On and Two Tickets To Paradise.
The musician has released twelve studio albums including his most recent – Brand New Day – in 2019.
As well as his musical career, Eddie has appeared in a host of American sitcoms including The King of Queens as well as a GEICO insurance commercial starring his famous tune Two Tickets To Paradise.
He also starred in a reality TV series alongside his family called Real Money on AXS TV in 2018.
Throughout his life the star was vocal about his struggles with addiction and joined a 12-step program in 2001.
On August 24, 2019, Eddie revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer.
He passed away from the disease on September 13, 2019 at the age of 70-years-old.
Eddie leaves behind his wife Laurie (m.1989) and their five children – Zachary, Jessica, Joseph, Julian and Desmond.
