When is Unbelievable on Netflix?

Unbelievable was made available on the streaming service on September 13, which means you can catch the series as a whole on Netflix right now.

As mentioned, Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director Susannah Grant took charge of all eight episodes, and there’s already talks of a second series for next year.

What is the plot?

Unbelievable is an adaption of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize-Winning Article ‘An Unbelievable Story of Rape, which was written by T Christian Miller, The Marshall Project and Ken Armstrong.

It’s also based on the This American Life radio episode titled Anatomy of Doubt.

The show depicts the story of Marie, an 18-year-old who reported a rape but later pulled back her claim following pressure from the authorities.

She was later charged with false reporting and ended up accepting the plea deal in 2009.

And for two years, her attacker continued to walk freely around the United States, leading to a number of similar cases to emerge.

By 2011, he was caught by two female detectives from Colorado.

The official short synopsis: “After a teen reports being raped, then recants her story, two female detectives follow evidence that could reveal the truth. Based on true events.”

Speaking about the show, Susannah shared: “There are a couple of things you hear said about the process of reporting a rape.
“One is that the investigation feels like a second assault. And you also hear that the process of going through the kit also feels like an assault.”
