STRICTLY Come Dancing’s Kelvin Fletcher has revealed his dad is his dance hero after signing up as Jamie Laing’s replacement.

The ex Emmerdale star – who is now paired up with Oti Mabuse – shimmies in a glitzy top during a a Q&A on Twitter and discussed his delight at joining the BBC competition, after Jamie was forced to quit due to a foot injury.

Kelvin looks the part dressed in a tight, glittery top and black trousers and tells fans: “I’m an actor, and people will probably best know me for playing Andy Sugden in Emmerdale.

He strokes his chest as he adds: “It’s a whole new world for me and naturally, even this feels a bit alien for me, but I quite like it!”

Kevlin doesn’t want to let down fans and said as an actor, he can bring the story to each performance.

The hunky 35-year-old told how he’s a huge fan of music and especially northern soul, having watched his dad dance to it growing up.

He said: “My dancing idol is my dad, when he used to dance to Northern Soul, I used to think, ‘Oh that’s cool’. Now I have an chance to emulate him.”Kelvin – who played Andy Sugden in Emmerdale from 1996 to 2016 – previously said it was “surreal” when he was asked to step in for injured Jamie, 30.

And Oti has already put him through his paces, as the actor complained on Instagram that everything hurts, including his bum, after his second day in training.

Meanwhile, Strictly chiefs have been quick to sooth Jamie’s emotional pain at missing out on the show by telling him he is first on the list for next year.

A show insider revealed to Sun Online: “After such a harrowing end to his Strictly debut this must have been the perfect tonic for Jamie…knowing he will be back in the ballroom next year.

“It was a lovely touch by the powers that be who realised just how devastated he was.”


Jamie visited four different foot specialists, all of whom told him he would have to pull out of the competition.

Jamie told ITV’s This Morning: “It’s quite an upsetting thing.

“When you are in a show like that it becomes a bit of a bubble. When that gets taken away from you in terms of an injury it’s upsetting.

“I cried. I just wanted to be Madonna. I just wanted to dance.”
