GRAND Designs went out of this world this week when a statue of an alien smoking a spliff and a space age sofa were installed in a £1.3million circular house.
The reaction on social media was even more over the top than the architecture – with fans of the Channel 4 series castigating Lincolnshire couple Paul and Amy Wilkinson.

One Twitter commentator said they had “the worst taste of any couple I’ve seen on the show.”
Others described the lakeside, wood clad new build as have the appearance of a “a visitors centre” or a “UFO.”
And even the show’s host Kevin McCloud was aghast when he eyed a wood carving at the house’s entrance which was supposed to resemble him.
He laughed: “As long as you don’t expect me to take it away…”

But many viewers defended hard grafting property developer Paul, who was working on the building site before the crack of dawn even while suffering severe back pain.
One fan said: “The house is lovely and you’ve got to love and admire Paul & Amy”, while another commented: “I’m glad there’s people doing mental s*** like this.”
