Who is rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine?
Tekashi 6ix9ine, 22, is an American rapper from New York who first found viral fame by uploading tracks to SoundCloud.
The rapper, whose name is pronounced “six nine”, first began releasing songs in 2014 and gained mainstream attention for his style of aggressive rap mixed with anime visuals.
He rose to fame in late 2017 with the release of his debut commercial single Gummo which became platinum, but his career has also been blighted by personal and legal issues.
Prior to his music career he sold marijuana to support his family after his father was murdered in 2009.

The rapper was born Daniel Hernandez on May 8, 1996, and has one daughter, with his partner Sara.
He was raised in Brooklyn, New York, to a Mexican mother and a Puerto Rican father.

Nicki Minaj collaborated with the rapper on the single Fefe.
However despite his conviction for the use of a minor in a sexual performance, The Huffington Post reported that she still “fought” for him to perform at the VMAs.
She said: “I wanted him to perform with me at the VMAs.
“And somewhere along the line he didn’t get approved to perform by the powers that be.
“I don’t want anyone to think for a second that I wouldn’t invite him to perform his hit record. I want everyone to know my character. I really fought.

What criminal charges does Tekashi 6ix9ine face?
In November 2018 it was reported that Tekashi 6ix9ine is facing LIFE in prison after being arrested on racketeering and firearms charges.
The rapper has been denied bail and will remain in custody pending trial.
Prosecutors say a conviction could result in a mandatory 32-year prison sentence and possibly life.
Judge Henry Pitman cited the discovery of evidence from a gunpoint robbery and an automatic pistol found in his home as reason to deny bail.
He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The rapper is prepared to take the stand against accused Anthony ‘Harv’ Ellison, 31, and Aljermiah ‘Nuke’ Mack, 33, in Manhattan federal court.
Ellison is accused of kidnapping Tekashi last July along with racketeering and gun charges. Mack is charged with narcotics trafficking and racketeering.
The news was revealed after the US Attorney sent a letter to the judge in the case, which includes testimony from the rapper who is behind bars after striking the deal.
According to the letter, the tattooed star will also implicate himself and fellow Nine Trey Gangsta Blood gang members in a conspiracy to harm a rival who wrote lyrics deemed critical of the rapper.
TMZ reveals the rapper will link individuals to “incriminating texts, social media posts, DMs, and other communications.”
