FREEMA Ageman will be reprising her Doctor Who role as Martha Jones in a new adaptation of Torchwood.
Agyeman played the assistant to David Tennant’s Doctor from 2006 to 2010, as well as in three episodes of the spin-off series.
The new series will be an audio story set in the world of Torchwood exploring what Martha got up to after leaving the Doctor for good.
In the story – created by Big Finish Productions and written by Tim Foley – sees Martha employed by the UN’s paranormal and extraterrestrial military division UNIT for one final mission.
She’s reunited with her Torchwood colleague Gwen Cooper (Ever Myles), as she knocks on her door with a dead body in tow.
The synopsis reads: “Gwen Cooper turns up on Martha Jones’ doorstep with a dead body in tow. She needs to ask one final favour of her. And to find out why they stopped being friends.
“A lot’s happened to Torchwood since Martha left. A lot’s happened to Martha since she left Torchwood.
“And there’s something very odd about the dead body Gwen’s brought with her. Tonight she’s going to be getting more answers than she bargained for.”
Freema says returning to the role is “quite overwhelming” and she is feeling “nostalgic”.
She said: “It really is like stepping into comfortable old shoes. It feels like about five minutes ago and yet so much time has passed.
“That’s the wonderful thing about the Whoniverse – you never feel on the outside of it. It’s great to be back.”
Writer Tim Foley is excited to have two ferocious females together in one space.
He said: “It’s such a delight to pit these two against each other. This is quite an experimental story – you’ll be listening to an autopsy in real time, which was such a fun challenge.
“Luckily for me Eve and Freema spar off each other marvellously, stuck in a lab with nothing but a corpse for company…”
Torchwood ran for four series, ending in 2011 during the storyline Miracle Day.
Series creator Russell T Davies created a fifth series, Aliens Among Us, as an audio story for Big Finish Productions.
Torchwood: Dissected will be released in Ferbruary 2020 and priced at £7.99 on download or £9.99 on CD.
