SANDI Toksvig is famously known for her witty character and it is back in full force now Bake Off is airing its tenth series.

What is Sandi Toksvig’s background?

Sandra Birgitte Toksvig was born in Denmark on May 3, 1958.
Her dad, Claus Toksvig, was a Danish journalist and foreign correspondent, so Sandi spent much of her youth in New York.

Her mum, Julie Anne Toksvig, previously Brett, is British – and Sandi was educated at Tormead, a private girls’ school near Guildford, while her dad was working in London.

Sandi studied law, archaeology and anthropology at Cambridge University – where she began her comedy career.

Her time at Cambridge overlapped with Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tony Slattery and Emma Thompson.

Sandi started her TV career in 1982, presenting kids’ TV programme No 73, followed by the Sandwich Quiz, The Saturday Starship, Motormouth, Gilbert’s Fridge and Island Race Society.

In October 2012, in the wake of allegations that the BBC tolerated sexual harassment by Jimmy Savile and other individuals, Sandi said they “did not surprise me at all”.

She also claimed she was groped by a “famous individual” live on air in the ’80s.

Sandi shed four stone in 2014, and later said it was this that gave her the confidence to move from radio to TV presenting.

She was awarded an OBE in the 2014 New Year Honours list.

She may have a big personality, but it’s all contained in a pretty small frame.

That’s right, Sandi stands at just 4ft 11″ tall.

Though she certainly hasn’t let her height hinder her when it comes to holding her own.

And her – presumably small feet – have done a remarkable job in filling in the big shoes of Mel and Sue as hosts of The Great British Bake Off.

Is Sandi Toksvig married?

In 2007, Sandi and partner Debbie Toksvig, a psychotherapist, entered into a civil partnership.

The couple renewed their vows on March 29 , 2014 – the same day that same-sex marriage was legalised in England and Wales.

Their civil partnership was converted into a marriage in December 2014 and the couple live in a houseboat in Wandsworth, South West London.

In 1994, Save the Children dropped Sandi’s services after she came out but later apologised after a protest by the Lesbian Avengers.

Does Sandi Toksvig have children?

Yes – Sandi has three kids, two daughters (Megan and Jesse) and a son (Theo.)

All three children were carried by her ex-partner Peta Stewart, who she separated from in 1997.

Her kids were conceived via artificial insemination using donor Christopher Lloyd-Pack – the younger brother of Only Fools and Horses actor Roger Lloyd-Pack.

Yes – she sure has!

Sandi was seen enjoying a Mad Hatter style tea party alongside her cast mates for promotional shots of the upcoming series.

The presenter returns with co-host Noel Fielding to put the bakers at ease as temperatures rise in the GBBO tent.

We are yet to be told of an official start date for GBBO though we can expect it will be back on our screens in August

When is The Great British Bake Off 2019 on TV?

The Great British Bake Off 2019 will return TONIGHT (September 10, 2019) at 8pm on Channel 4.

The show will run for a total of 10 consecutive weeks.

The final is likely to be on November 5, 2019 – but this is still to be confirmed.

If you miss the episode you can catch it on Channel 4+1 or the All 4.

What is Sandi Toksvig’s net worth and how much does she get paid for Bake Off?

Sandi is worth a cool £6.3 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

She has accrued her fortune through her telly presenting fees as well as the net income from her books, as well as other endorsements.

Though we don’t know her exact salary for GBBO, we do know that she ensures NO ONE on the show earns more than her, she told The Sun:

“On my show, nobody’s being paid more than me.

“I don’t ask what they’re being paid — I just make sure they’re not getting more than me.”

And considering that her co-host Noel is on £200,000 and judge Paul Hollywood is on £400,000 – if what she says goes, she should be on £400k a series too.

Sandi presented RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019: The Road to Chelsea on May 12, 2019, with gardener Adam Frost.

The programme is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Sandi is a celebrity guest on the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show, presented by journalist Sophie Raworth, Garden Rescue co-stars The Rich Brothers, 2017 MasterChef winner Angellica Bell and Gardeners’ World presenter Monty Don and garden designer Joe Swift.

But she is best known for being the host of The Great British Bake Off with Noel Fielding.

She bagged the job when the programme left the BBC for Channel 4.

Sandi has appeared as a regular panellist on comedy shows including Call My Bluff, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Mock the Week, QI and Have I Got News for You.

In 2015, Sandi took over from Stephen Fry as the host of QI and she also hosts Channel 4 quiz Fifteen to One.

The Danish-born funnywoman was also the host of quiz show What The Dickens and will be a familiar voice for Radio 4 listeners.

Sandi has appeared in a number of stage plays, including Much Ado About Nothing and The Comedy of Errors, and has written a lot of material.

She appeared in the 2013 Christmas special of Call The Midwife.

What books has Sandi Toksvig written?

Sandi has written several books including children’s novel Tales from the Norse’s Mouth, and Gladys Reunited: A Personal American Journey – a tale of her travels in the USA, retracing her childhood.

Writing regular columns for Good Housekeeping, the Sunday Telegraph and The Lady, she is also the author of Girls Are Best – a history book for girls.

Was Sandi Toksvig a politician?

At one point, Sandi was a high-profile political activist who supported the Lib Dems.

In 2011, MPs urged Ofcom to investigate an “obscene joke” made by Sandi on Radio 4’s The News Quiz – when she said the Tories “put the N into cuts” in child benefits.

In April 2015, Sandi quit her job as presenter of The News Quiz to co-found the Women’s Equality Party.

She later explained that she had decided that it was “not too late to fight the good fight, after all” – and donated her funds from a September 2015 comedy tour to the party.
