ANGELA Griffin has dropped a big hint she will be returning to Coronation Street as Fiona Middleton.
The star made a brief cameo appearance in a storyline this summer – but more could be in store for fan favourite Fiona on the ITV soap.
The actress, 43, was on the red carpet for the TV Choice Awards at London’s Hilton Park Lane last night when she said the door is open for her return.
She told The Sun Online: “I suppose the door’s always open now that connection’s there, but I’m a little bit busy filming at the moment.
“I would’ve loved to have made [my cameo] longer but I’m filming in Spain for Netflix.”
She added: “I was really quite chuffed when the call came in. I was really, really pleased to go back.
“I walked into the make-up room and I knew every single make-up lady there and I just burst into tears.”
Angela made a brief appearance back on the soap after 20 years away in August.
The Sun Online exclusively revealed she would return as part of a lovechild riddle.
She appeared via video call when confronted by her daughter Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell) about the identity of her real father.
Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) told Emma that he was the biological father immediately after the funeral of the man who raised her like a dad.
Fiona was the first major black character on Coronation Street. She appeared for over 250 episodes before leaving Weatherfield for good in autumn 1998.
She dated Steve and had an affair with his dad, Jim.
News of this fling doomed her wedding to detective Alan McKenna (Glen Hugill) just as they were about to marry.
Alan and Fiona had a son, Morgan, together.
Steve and Fiona eventually got back together, but she threw him out and ended their relationship after he cheated with her best mate Maxine Peacock.
Since leaving Corrie, Angela has appeared all across British television, including a two year stint as Jasmine Hopkins in Holby City between 1999 and 2001.
She most recently appeared as Astrid in Idris Elba’s Netflix and web series Turn Up Charlie.
Angela is married to actor Jason Milligan and they have two children: Tallulah and Melissa, 12.
