When was The Spy release date on Netflix?

The Spy was released on Netflix on September 6, 2019 – which means you can stream the series NOW.

The miniseries follows the real life events of Mossad spy Eli Cohen or ‘ Kamel Amin Thaabet’ as he was known by his alias.

Throughout the course of six episodes, The Spy explores Eli’s extraordinary life as he ‘goes undercover in Syria and ultimately changed the course of Israel’s history’ – according to Netflix.

As well as the dangers of living a double life as an espionage.

It is based on the French book L’espion qui venait d’israel ( The Spy Who Came from Israel) by Uri Dan and Yeshayahu Ben Porat.

Review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes has given the series a favourable 83% rating.

Who is in the cast of The Spy?

Sacha Baron Cohen takes on the main role of Mossad spy Eli Cohen / Kamel Amin Thaabet.

Alongside the Borat actor is Homeland actress Hadar Ratzon Rotm who plays his wife Nadia Cohen.

While The Americans star Noah Emmerich takes on the role of the agent’s handler Dan Peleg.

Among the other stars of the show is Waleed Zuaitor – who you may recognise from Colony – who plays military officer Amin Al-Hafz.

In the 2 minute 10 second clip, fans can get an insight into what’s in store for the plot and patriotic main character Eli Cohen as he declares ” I love my country with all my might.”

Before seeing Eli adopt a new personality and double life as Kamel Amin Thaabet in Syria.

The trailer shows Eli/Kamel struggle with his identity as the lines between reality and pretend blur – he says:

“Taking off the clothes doesn’t work anymore, I can’t put him away.”
