A NEWLY engaged British couple were kept in a French jail for two days after wrongly being accused of people smuggling
Sam Hemingway and Jordan White were arrested after immigration officials found a stowaway in their car boot.
Hotel chef Sam, 23, had proposed to Jordan, 20, during a mini break in France — but their joy soon turned into a nightmare.
Their car was stopped in Calais as they were about to board a ferry home and the teenage migrant stowaway was discovered.
They were immediately arrested and taken to jail where they claim they were denied a solicitor and an interpreter — and not given food.
Sam said: “We were treated appallingly and we had done nothing wrong. We were denied all sorts of simple human rights.
We tried to explain there was a fault with the car, that the boot didn’t shut properly and that’s how he got in. He was a 16-year-old from Iran they told us.

“Then all of a sudden after two days the police released us with no apology saying the case had been dropped. We are thinking of making a case against them.”
Restaurant boss Jordan accepted Sam’s proposal. The pair from Wrexham, North Wales, plan to marry in November.
The Sun told on Wednesday how a migrant slipped into Britain via a couple’s car roof box, emerging in Newbury. Berks.
