A SPIDER-MAN spin-off TV series has been confirmed by Sony – despite the superhero being axed from the Marvel universe.
The comic book character – currently portrayed by British actor Tom Holland – will not appear in any more films as part of the MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe].

But spidey fans shouldn’t despair, as Sony Pictures – which owns the rights to the character – is already working on bringing the franchise to the small screen.
Tony Vinciquerra, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures – recently revealed the company is working on “five or six” series in the franchise for television and streaming services.
Speaking at Variety’s Entertainment and Technology summit, he said: “Spider-Man was fine before the event movies, did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well.
“I think we’re pretty capable of doing what we have to do here.”

Spider-man appeared in five Marvel movies – three with the Avengers and two standalone films including this year’s Spider-man: Far From Home.
Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige said of Spider-man’s stint with the MCU: “I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy.
“We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers.
“It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever.

“We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”
Now Peter Parker is fully back with Sony, the company has plenty of other characters that could be serialised for the small screen, such as Black Cat and Silver Sable.
However, it’s currently unclear when actor Tom, 23, will reprise his role for future films.
