LOVE Island star Theo Campbell feared he had been glassed after a freak accident with a cork left him blind in one eye.
Theo, who appeared in Love Island 2017, was partying in Ibiza last month when a fellow reveller accidentally fired a cork in his direction while opening a bottle of champagne.
The former track athlete, 28, was hit in his right eye and has revealed that he initially thought there were shards of glass in it.
Recalling the incident, Theo told BBC’s Newsbeat: “I was only probably a metre away and it catches me clean in the eyeball.
“The pain was nothing like I’d felt before.
“I’ve been hurt before but it’s a very weird pain, to get pain in your eye.
“I’m in a bad way so I’ve seen blood in my hand and I was like, ‘oh, no!’”
He added: “I was like, ‘No no no. I thought there was glass in there.”
Theo was rushed to a nearby Spanish hospital and underwent two rounds of surgery on his eyeball, which had been split in two.
For now, he has lost his vision but he is remaining positive that one day he will regain it.
During a recent Instagram Q&A, which he did alongside his girlfriend and former Love Island star Kaz Crossley, Theo vowed to be “patient”.
When asked if he will be blind forever, he replied: “I always preach about being patient and having hope.
“I think the body, especially my body can heal from anything so I am going to get some vitamins and a lot of darkness.”
Earlier this week, we told how the defiant star is set to run a 10K race to raise money for a blindness charity.
Stepping out in his eye patch, Theo told his online fans that he will be hitting the streets for Cure Blindness.
He admitted: “It isn’t going to be easy. I’m a sprinter, so it’ll be a challenge. Not being able to see in one eye is a bit of pain in the a**.

“Sight is the most important sense a person has so to help someone fix their sight will go a long way.”
Joking, Theo added: “I would do it for people who got popped in the eye with a cork, but that charity doesn’t exist.”
Meanwhile, Theo’s girlfriend Kaz has praised his “bravery and positivity” following the horrific incident.
