STRICTLY Come Dancing execs are praying the curse of Strictly doesn’t happen again – by making sure the contestants are already single.
TV bosses are trying to ensure no more couples split up again after appearing on the show – and this is their attempt to prevent it.
The infamous Strictly curse has seen many a celebrity and pro dancer part ways with their long term partners after starring in the BBC1 show which starts this weekend.
And this year, eight out of 15 celebs taking part are conveniently single including former-England footballers David James and Alex Scott, actor/DJ Dev Griffin, YouTube star Saffron Barker, sports presenter Mike Bushell, CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual, Paralympian Will Bayley and EastEnders star Emma Barton.
The kiss between comedian Seann Walsh and Katya Jones was well documented – and the formerly married couple Katya and Neil have since parted ways.
And they’re not alone. Last year’s winner Stacey Dooley was in a relationship with Sam Tucknott – but then was paired up with dancer Kevin Clifton and the dancing pair are now a couple.
Bosses and judges are not only worried about tarnishing the show’s family-friendly reputation – but it could also put celebs off taking part in the show.
In 2013 Rachel Riley broke up with her husband Jamie Gilbert after starring on the show with Pasha Kovalev – who is now her husband.
The Countdown whizz said that the show “serves as a magnifying glass that shows up pre-existing fault lines”.
Dance psychologist Dr Peter Lovatt says he believes that there are reasons why this ‘curse’ could happen.
He said: “The first is social bonding. Shared movement brings people together.
“In Strictly, you have this shared movement day after day after day.”
