SIR JOHN MAJOR has demanded Boris Johnson sack his top aide Dominic Cummings – claiming the Tories are becoming a “mean minded sect”.
He said it defied belief 21 Tory MPs had been booted out of the party for failing to “parrot the views of a Prime Minister influenced by a political anarchist” who doesn’t “care a fig” for the Conservatives.

And he stormed: “I offer the Prime Minister some friendly advice: get rid of these advisers before they poison the political atmosphere beyond repair.
“And do it quickly.”
It came in an astonishing attack where the ex-PM accused Ministers of “playing fast and loose with the future of our United Kingdom”.
And he said the Cabinet had no “moral authority” to change the history of the country by masterminding a hard-Brexit.
He reiterated his fierce opposition to leaving the EU, saying Britain would be reduced to being a peripheral figure on the international sidelines.
But his barely concealed fury towards Boris Johnson and his advisers will pile yet more pressure onto the PM in his worst day since entering No.10.
Sir John said the Government was acting unlike any other in history and using “bluster and threat in a climate of aggressive bullying”.

He conceded he had removed the whip from Tory MPs when he ran the country. But he claimed it was different as MPs now were being deselected and thrown out of the party for “voting with their conscience”.
He stormed: “These are not wild, fringe figures.”
And he demanded: “Prime Minister, reinstate those Members of Parliament you have expelled because, without them – and others like them – we will cease to be a broad-based national party, and be seen as a mean-minded sect.”
Urging the Government to change its tone, Sir John said the “lies” of the Vote Leave campaign were now being repeated by No.10.
He claimed No.10 was threatening to freeze out businessmen from future government consultation if they go public with negative views about Brexit.
And he said: “This Government was not elected.

“They have locked out half the electorate, whilst pleading the ‘will of the people’, they have redefined Brexit into the hardest and most uncompromising breach with Europe.
“This is not what was pledged when people voted to leave the EU.”
