The actress – best known for playing Honey Mitchell in EastEnders – is now going to be showing off her dance skills – here’s the lowdown on the star…

What has Emma Barton said about Strictly Come Dancing?

During an interview on The One Show, Emma enthused: “I’m the biggest fan, it is sort of weird cause now I’m not going to be able to sit at home and watch it.”

When asked what it was like getting the call to be on the show, she added: “I was over the moon. You have a lot of rehearsals and I haven’t done theatre in a lot of years so I’m gonna wing it.”

How much is Emma Barton being paid to join Strictly Come Dancing?

Emma’s pay cheque for signing up to Strictly Come Dancing is said to be between £25,000 and £40,000.

The Sun previously reported by each celebrity is given a standard £25,000 payment for joining, which rises to £40,000 if they manage to stay until the end of October.

What’s more, her fee could jump to £60,000 if she makes it to the quarter-finals and £100,000 if she wins the entire show.

Who will Emma Barton be partnered with on Strictly Come Dancing?

Given Anton Du Beke’s track record with soap stars, there is every possibility the veteran dancer could be partnered with Emma.

He was previously paired with former EastEnders actress’ Patsy Palmer and Gillian Taylforth, in the third and sixth series.

Anton has also worked with a string of TV stars, including Laila Rouass and Lesley Joseph.

What are Emma Barton’s odds of winning the show?

The show hasn’t even begun yet and people are already casting their votes on who’s in it to win it.

And according to bookies Coral, so far Emma has 10/1 odds of getting her hands on that glitterball trophy.

While she faces competition from footballer Alex Scott who has been given a 4/1 chance of winning.

What is Emma Barton’s background?

Emma Barton, 42, was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, on July 26, 1977.

She first took on the role of EastEnders‘ Honey Mitchell (as a love interest for Billy Mitchell, played by Perry Fenwick) back in 2005, and stayed in the show until 2008.

She came back in 2014 on a temporary basis, but returned to the Square full time in late 2015.

Away from work, Emma – who is believed to be single – relaxes by cooking and has previously appeared on Celebrity MasterChef.

“I absolutely loved it, but it was so frightening,” she recalled.

“I was the third out – I didn’t do well at all. I think it was the panic. Now I stick to roast dinners and pasta dishes.”

What else has Emma Barton been in?

Emma made her TV debut in 2003 as an MI5 officer in Spooks.

She has also appeared on stage in plays including Grease, Loveshack and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

She took on the role of Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk at Devonshire Park Theatre in Eastbourne and in late 2009 she toured with the mudical Chicago, taking the lead role of Roxie Hart.

In 2014, Barton played Dolly in the National Theatre’s touring production of One Man, Two Guvnors.

During the 2016-17 Christmas panto season, she played the role of Tinkerbell in the Crawley Hawth Theatre pantomime production of Peter Pan.

Emma has previously insisted that she’s nothing like her EastEnders character Honey.

She has said: “I’d like to think I’m not like Honey!” she laughs. “Although when I’m nervous, Honey can appear slightly. I get a bit stuttery and can’t think of the correct words to say.

“I think they saw that in me when I first auditioned 10 years ago!”


When does Strictly Come Dancing 2019 start?

Strictly Come Dancing is returning for its 17th series on BBC One this September.

On Friday, 23, July, it was revealed via a social post on the Strictly account that the official Strictly start date will be Saturday, September 7, 2019.

The news was accompanied by a short trailer which showed the professional dancers posing in glitzy outfits and trying to out perform each other.

It kicked off with the red carpet launch on Monday, August 26, 2019.

There after the main show will air live on Saturday evenings with the results the following day on Sundays.
